Applus+ IDIADA acquires a Chinese engineering company

Barcelona, 6 January 2013. - Applus+ IDIADA, has acquired the Chinese company EDI, specialized in automotive design and engineering; thereby increasing IDIADA's capacity to offer local support to its clients operating in China, a key market fot the worldwide automotive sector.

The operation will allow the Spanish multinational to consolidate its position in China, reinforcing its commitment to providing global coverage to its international clients. EDI focuses its activity on the comprehensive development of prototype vehicles at all stages, from design to prototype construction.

Product development, mainly in the fields of active and passive safety, computer design and simulation (CAD/CAE), the implementation of whole-vehicle durability programs and vehicle, systems and components homologation are the main services Applus IDIADA currently provides locally in China.

In the words of Fernando Basabe, CEO of Applus+, the acquisition of EDI "is another step in the expansion of Applus+ as a leading company in the provision of specialized services for the automotive industry on an international scale".

For Carles Grasas, CEO of Applus+ IDIADA, "the integration of EDI allows us to increase our technical capabilities and human resources in China to 165 people, as well as expand our presence with new facilities in Liuzhou, which are added to those the company already has in Shanghai, Beijing, Changchun, Chongqing and Guangzhou".

InterChina, a firm specialized in M&A in China, has acted as consultant to Applus+ IDIADA in this operation.
